Mark from Fire Risk Consulting North was selected to carry out our Fire Risk Assessment here at Holkham in September 2019.

To give a bit of background about our business, we are a large country Estate of 25000 acres, which includes Farming, 300 properties, a visitor attraction, Hotel, Holiday park and a 4000-acre nature reserve. At the hub of all of this is an Historic house of 209 rooms over 4 floors dating back to 1764, where the public can visit and various events are held including weddings and to top it all it is still a family home.

The challenge Mark was facing was pretty huge, Mark spent 4 day onsite working tirelessly to complete our Fire Risk Assessment, as with any Historic house this was certainly not a straight forward task, things where just not built to comply with modern day standards back then and finding a balance is extremely challenging.

As Hall Manager at Holkham, Mark gathered information from me about the building and its uses and any compliant and non-compliant areas there may be. Mark then set about the assessment covering every possible angle to end up with a very comprehensive 200 page document which really opened my eyes, thanks to Mark we are on our way to a more compliant building and having a better understanding of regulations and how to apply them with Marks continued support.
